Integrating SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central with SAP Payroll

In the years since SAP acquired SuccessFactors, the level and pace of change in SAP’s HR offering has been remarkable. SAP cloud solutions have already been adopted by many customers, whose number is growing rapidly, and most enterprises see the transition to the cloud as a question of when, not if.

SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central (EC) is the next-generation core HR system; designed for the global enterprise workforce and delivered securely via the SAP SuccessFactors cloud.

Integration of EC with other customer systems has become a hot topic recently. In this post we will explore the available integration options for EC and SAP ECC HCM/Payroll systems, both on-premise and in the cloud.

The transition to the cloud requires careful consideration and planning; many customers are now moving their core HR to SuccessFactors HCM Suite, while keeping Payroll and Finance on premise. This transformation brings various challenges around data integration between cloud and on-premise systems. There is also an option to run SAP Payroll hosted in the cloud.  Other customers may choose to migrate to SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll (ECP)*.

ECP is a hosted SAP global payroll solution integrated with Employee Central. For organizations that wish to manage payroll in-house via a cloud-based solution, ECP offers most of the same features and benefits as SAP’s on-premise payroll solution, but it is delivered with the security, scale, and flexibility of the SAP SuccessFactors cloud.

Whichever option is chosen, data integration is a critical part of a successful solution.

Data Integration Scenarios:

There are several data integration scenarios:

  • Employee Master Data replication
  • Organizational Data replication
  • Time Off / Absence Data replication
  • Payroll Time Data replication
  • Cost Centre replication
  • RTI Integration with HMRC (GB specific)

SAP provides pre-packaged solutions for the different data integration scenarios based on SAP HANA Cloud Integration (HCI) and Dell Boomi. This option is known as “middleware-based data replication”.

Available integration options for Employee Central customers with on-premise SAP Payroll or cloud hosted SAP Payroll (not EC Payroll) are shown in the table below:


SAP also provides Point-to-Point data replication of various types of data for Employee Central Payroll customers without using any middleware. This option is known as PTP or P2P data replication.

Available integration options for Employee Central customers with Employee Central Payroll are shown in the table below:


Please note that point-to-point data replication can only be used with Employee Central Payroll, and is not available for on-premise or cloud hosted payroll.

    Is it possible to replicate concurrent employment data from job information in EC to Infotype 0712 through P2P replication framework?
    We have seen that this infotype 0712 is not listed in the replication guide.
